Hot, Humid Ohio—Ever hear of a fixie? Yes, these bikes are all the rage, around college campuses, cities..they’ve got a cult-like following. With good reason, they’re pretty cool.
A fixed gear bicycle is a bike that just can’t “coast…” you know, what you did when you were a kid, no hands on the handlebars, rolling down a hill and not pedaling at all, laughing and screaming?
Yes, this bike can’t really do that…well, the no pedaling portion of that equation. With a fixie, there’s no freewheel, so you’re always pedaling. My fleet of bikes doesn’t include a fixie but my life does. I’ve been dreaming about starting a photography business for quite some time, but it just wasn’t coasting, always pedaling but not really flying down the hill, all playful like.
Until now.
I’ve been known to take my good-ole time at decision making…and I’m putting myself out there now. I’m flying down the hill with my legs stretched as wide as my arms…and if I have to go around the block a few times, no problem, I’ve got the time. And if I crash, oh well, I’m sure I’ll learn something there, too. That’s just the way riding bikes is. And life. And starting something new. Will you join me?
